Flavors & History of Lisbon: A Traditional Walking Food Tour

You’ll have the chance to discover Lisbon’s authentic cuisine side by side with a local guide, exploring the city’s flavors, history, and traditions on foot.

. 1. Restauradores Square: We start at Restauradores Square, where you’ll taste the traditional pastel de bacalhau — a crispy codfish and potato croquette — paired with a cold Portuguese beer.

. 2. Arco do Bandeira: A short walk away, we’ll stop to enjoy caldo verde, a warm and comforting soup made with kale, potatoes, and chouriço — a true Portuguese classic.

. 3. Baixa Pombalina: As we continue, you’ll hear about the 1755 earthquake that reshaped Lisbon and discover how the city was rebuilt in the elegant Pombaline style.

. 4. Time to try the famous bifana — thin pork slices in a garlic and white wine sauce — served in a soft roll and best enjoyed with a refreshing Sagres beer.

. 5. São Jorge Castle: We’ll walk up to the castle area to taste peixinhos da horta — fried green beans in a light batter — a traditional dish that inspired Japanese tempura.

. 6. Graça: Enjoy a tasting board of Portuguese cheeses and cured meats, from creamy sheep cheese to smoky chouriço, paired with a chilled glass of white wine.

. 7. Mouraria: Stop at a traditional Fado house to enjoy salada de polvo (octopus salad) and bacalhau à Brás with vinho verde. A live Fado performance cannot be guaranteed during the tour (you may see one in the evening, but it’s not included).

. 8. Martim Moniz: Discover Lisbon’s multicultural side with chamuças, a spiced pastry brought from Mozambique and Goa that reflects Portugal’s colonial past.

. 9. Belém: We’ll drive to Belém for a short historical visit through its monuments and maritime landmarks — and of course, taste the world-famous pastel de nata.

. 10. Rossio Square: Back in the city center, we end our journey with a glass of ginja, Lisbon’s signature cherry liqueur — the perfect local toast to finish the experience.
