Your 5-Day Portugal Tour Itinerary
Day 1 – Sintra, Cabo da Roca and Cascais
Start your journey from Lisbon towards the enchanting town of Sintra, a destination known for its romantic atmosphere, historic palaces, and lush mountain landscapes. Here, you can choose to visit two of the region’s most iconic landmarks. At Pena Palace, admire the vibrant colors and unique Romantic architecture imagined by King Fernando II, often called the “Artist King” for his passion for creativity and the arts, which transformed a former monastery into one of Portugal’s most remarkable royal residences. At Quinta da Regaleira, explore a fascinating estate filled with gardens, hidden tunnels, and symbolic details inspired by Freemasonry, the Knights Templar, and ancient mystical traditions.
Take time to walk through the charming historic center of Sintra, with its narrow streets, local shops, and traditional atmosphere, before continuing to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe. For centuries, this dramatic cliffside location was believed to be the end of the known world, long before the discovery of the Americas and Portugal’s Atlantic islands.
The day ends in Cascais, a picturesque coastal town that evolved from a simple fishing village into an elegant seaside retreat, often referred to as the Portuguese Riviera. Enjoy its relaxed charm and ocean views before returning to Lisbon.

Day 2 – Óbidos, Nazaré and Aveiro with Transfer to Porto
Depart from Lisbon and travel north, beginning the day in Óbidos, a beautifully preserved medieval village surrounded by ancient stone walls. As you pass through its historic gates, you’ll find cobbled streets lined with whitewashed houses decorated with colorful flowers, creating a truly timeless atmosphere. Take time to explore the small artisan shops and experience one of the region’s most traditional treats, ginjinha, a cherry liqueur often served in a chocolate cup.
Continue to Nazaré, a coastal town deeply connected to the sea and known worldwide for its record-breaking waves. From Sítio da Nazaré, enjoy breathtaking views over the Atlantic and the long sandy beach below, while discovering a place where fishing traditions remain an important part of daily life.
The journey then leads to Aveiro, often referred to as the “Venice of Portugal” for its network of canals and colorful moliceiro boats. Stroll along the waterfront, admire the elegant Art Nouveau buildings and tiled façades, and, if you wish, taste ovos moles, the city’s most famous traditional sweet.

Step inside the enchanting Livraria Lello, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, before visiting the iconic Torre dos Clérigos and its church. For those who wish, climbing to the top rewards you with panoramic views over Porto’s rooftops and the Douro River. Walk along Avenida dos Aliados, the city’s grand central boulevard, surrounded by impressive architecture and a lively urban atmosphere.
The journey continues to the Sé Cathedral, one of Porto’s oldest and most important monuments, reflecting centuries of history. From there, cross the emblematic Dom Luís I Bridge on foot and take in breathtaking views over the river and the historic Ribeira district.

Day 4 – Douro Valley
Set out from Porto to explore the breathtaking Douro Valley, the world’s first demarcated wine region and one of Portugal’s most scenic landscapes. Along the way, stop in Amarante, a charming town set by the river, known for its historic center and picturesque medieval bridge that reflects centuries of local heritage and tradition.
Continue deeper into the valley, where winding roads reveal sweeping views of terraced vineyards carved into the hillsides. Pause at a scenic mountain viewpoint to admire the dramatic landscapes that make this region so unique and unforgettable.
In Pinhão, visit the historic railway station, famous for its beautiful azulejo panels that illustrate scenes from the Douro’s long winemaking tradition. The journey continues with a visit to a traditional wine estate, where you can enjoy a tasting experience, with several carefully selected options available to suit your preference.
Pass through Peso da Régua, considered the heart of the Douro wine region, before beginning the return journey. If time allows, there may also be an opportunity to stop at Casa de Fernão Magalhães and discover more about the legacy of the great Portuguese navigator.
